Roach's research focuses on innovative techniques for prostate cancer (search) treatment, including three-dimensional (3D) conformal radiation therapy and intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT). His development of predictive equations, most notably the 'Roach Formula' for estimating the risk of lymph node and seminal vesicle involvement, has significantly impacted patient treatment protocols.
Contributions to Prostate Cancer Treatment
Dr. Roach spearheaded a Phase III trial utilizing prostate-specific antigen (PSA (search)) levels as a measure for outcomes, incorporating PSA nadir as a secondary endpoint. Dr. Roach has been a UCSF faculty member since 1990 and chaired the Department of Radiation Oncology (search) from 2006 to 2015. He holds a medical degree from Stanford University School of Medicine and completed fellowships and residencies at multiple institutions.
