UK Becomes First Country to Launch CSL's Trivalent Flu Shot Aujemflu

The UK will become the first country to roll out CSL Seqirus (搜索)' adjuvanted trivalent influenza (搜索) vaccine Aujemflu (搜索), ahead of the 2027/28 flu season under a government agreement.
Aujemflu (搜索), approved by the MHRA in June for people aged 50 and over, combines the MF59 adjuvant, cell-based manufacturing and a higher-dose formulation.
The NHS will use it for adults aged 65 and over and at-risk adults aged 50 to 64, and the deal extends pandemic flu vaccine supply through 2031.
CSL Seqirus (搜索) will supply its newly approved adjuvanted, trivalent influenza (搜索) vaccine Aujemflu (搜索) to the UK ahead of the 2027/28 flu season under an agreement with the government. The MHRA approved Aujemflu (aTIVc/aIIVc) in June for people aged 50 and over, and the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (搜索) added it to flu vaccine recommendations in July.
Aujemflu (搜索) is described as the first flu shot to combine three approaches to enhancing protection in older adults in one vaccine: the MF59 adjuvant, cell-based manufacturing and a higher-dose formulation. Under the agreement, the NHS can use it for seasonal flu prevention in adults aged 65 and over and in at-risk adults aged 50 to 64 who are more vulnerable to complications of infection. It is given as a single-dose injection into the upper arm by a doctor, nurse or pharmacist.
MHRA approval was based on a study of 7,699 participants aged 50 and over that compared Aujemflu (搜索) with adjuvanted egg-based or recombinant quadrivalent vaccines. Aujemflu produced a stronger immune response than the egg-based vaccine against all four strains at four weeks and was equivalent to the recombinant shot on three of four, with a well-tolerated safety profile. The deal also extends an existing UK government agreement with CSL Seqirus (搜索) for pandemic flu vaccines through 2031, giving the country an option to buy more than 100 million doses if the WHO declares an influenza (搜索) pandemic. Both Aujemflu and the pandemic vaccines will be manufactured at the company's Liverpool site. Flu killed 3,798 people in England in the 2025/26 season, 3,442 of them aged 65 and over.
