CAR T-cell therapy, traditionally used in cancer, is being trialed in the UK for lupus and multiple sclerosis. The therapy modifies immune cells to target problem cells, potentially offering a cure. Early indications suggest it could revolutionize treatment, eliminating the need for lifelong medication. Patients in Germany have shown remission without lupus drugs after CAR T-cell therapy. The UK trial, led by UCLH and UCL, has treated three lupus patients, with early positive signs.
