University of Kansas leaders unveiled plans for the second phase of the Gateway District project, focusing on new retail, dining, parking, residential facilities, and a hotel to benefit the campus community and drive economic growth. The project aims to attract out-of-town guests and enhance Lawrence's status as a dynamic college town.

The application process has two phases: Phase I involves university-level selection, with each university responsible for selecting up to 5 projects within specified budget quotas.
