Calls to fast-track plans for historic Lancashire building as fly-tippers and vandals target site

The Harris Institute in Preston, a Grade-II listed building, faces vandalism and fly-tipping, raising security concerns. A planning application to convert it into an art gallery, conference centre, and co-working space, submitted in June, awaits approval. The building, last used in 2014, is now controlled by Harris Investment Group Limited, which is awaiting planning approval to restore the site.

The University of Central Lancashire’s clinical trials unit, Lancashire CTU, achieved full registration status from UKCRC, joining 49 other units nationally. The unit, based in Preston, has been involved in key trials like STIMULATE-ICP and COMMITS. Professor Dame Caroline Watkins, CTU Director, expressed pride in the unit’s progress. Chris Sutton will return as Professor of Clinical Trials in 2025, bringing extensive experience.
