The Advanced Imaging Research Center (AIRC) at OHSU features advanced MRI equipment, including 12 Tesla and 7 Tesla machines, supporting research on brain cancer, strokes, multiple sclerosis, dementia, and reproductive issues. Directed by William Rooney, Ph.D., the AIRC serves as a hybrid between an academic department and a shared resource, facilitating both independent research and collaborative projects. The center's development began in the late 1990s with the acquisition of dedicated research MRI instruments, leading to the establishment of the AIRC in 2003 under Charles Springer, Ph.D. The facility now includes a 3 Tesla MRI suite, faculty offices, and specialized labs, making OHSU a critical resource for advanced imaging research.
