Fecal Microbiota Transplant Capsules Show Breakthrough Results in Cancer Immunotherapy Trials

- Two Canadian clinical trials published in Nature Medicine demonstrate that fecal microbiota transplant (FMT) capsules can significantly improve cancer immunotherapy outcomes and reduce toxic side effects. - Phase II studies showed 80% response rates in lung cancer patients and 75% in melanoma patients receiving FMT plus immunotherapy, compared to 39-45% and 50-58% with immunotherapy alone, respectively. - A Phase I kidney cancer trial involving 20 patients found that customized FMT may help reduce severe colitis and diarrhea side effects that often force patients to discontinue life-sustaining immunotherapy treatment. - The advanced FMT capsules, known as LND101, are produced by Lawson Research Institute and represent a scalable approach to personalized microbiome therapy for cancer patients.
