Ukrainian Scientist Works on Revolutionary Motor Design for US Torpedo

Ukrainian-born Oleksandr Dobzhanskyi, Assistant Professor at Point Park University, developed the Gapless Rolling Motor (GRM), a new electric motor design. In 2023, he founded Orhont Magnetics to commercialize GRM, which has potential applications in robotics, transportation, advanced manufacturing, and military sectors. The US Navy awarded a grant to Orhont Magnetics and CFD Research Corporation for a Phase I proof-of-concept study on a new propulsion system for the Compact Rapid Attack Weapon (CRAW) torpedo. If successful, Phase II will involve building and testing a full-scale prototype. Dobzhanskyi's motivation includes giving back to the US support for Ukraine.
