A mum-of-two with life-threatening autoimmune disease survived due to NHS's world-first decision to prioritize liver transplants for ACLF patients. Sunita Bhuyan, 50, received an urgent transplant in 2024, celebrating six months post-surgery. The pilot scheme saw 42 out of 52 patients transplanted, with 77% one-year survival rate, prompting other countries to consider the approach. The study highlights the effectiveness of liver transplantation for carefully selected ACLF patients.
