UMass Lowell Expands Biomedical Engineering Training Pathways with New Grants

- UMass Lowell received more than $400,000 from the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center to build a tissue engineering training laboratory and launch a biomedical summer program for high school students. - Assistant Professor Yanfen Li secured nearly $629,000 in additional grants from the Boston Scientific Foundation and the National Science Foundation to expand hands-on STEM research opportunities. - The NSF-funded ECARE for Health program will train high school teachers to bring current engineering research into classrooms, while PROPEL served a record 34 high school students this summer. - The initiatives aim to strengthen the regional life sciences workforce pipeline by preparing students for careers in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, diagnostics, and regenerative medicine.
