A prospective study on cellulitis in adult patients with analysis of the factors related to the response to treatment

cellulitis is a common type of skin and soft tissue infection, whose incidence is rising and results in substantial economical and healthcare burdens. the causative microorganism is not identified in most cases of cellulitis but streptococcus pyrogens, staphylococcus aureus and other streptococci are accounts for three fourth of the cases. all clinical and healthcare circumstances emphasize the value of identifying factors leading to cellulitis for prevention purposes. the identification of the factors related to the response to therapy is highly desirable to improve the management and outcome. few large series of cellulitis have been published and few studies mostly with relatively reduced sample sizes have analyzed the interactions of the multiple potential causes leading to cellulitis the clinical, microbiological and therapeutic aspects and outcomes. therefore large comprehensive, prospective studies evaluating the multiplicity of factors related to the diverse aspects of cellulitis are necessary. to this end, we have carried out a large prospective study of adults patients with cellulitis admitted to the general surgery department, Indira Gandhi Institute of medical sciences Patna. several parameters including demography, topography, predisposing factors, co-morbidities, microbiological, clinical, laboratory, imaging, outcome and treatment data will be recorded and analysed to identify the factors associated with poor responses to therapy.
