Effects of Elastic Band Resistance Training on Depression, Autonomic Nervous System Activity, Stress and Body Composition for Nurses among Comprehensive Nursing Care Service Ward

As an experimental treatment, an elastic band was provided to the experimental group, and 9 exercises were performed on the upper and lower limbs for 1 hour per time, 3 times a week for a total of 8 weeks, and no treatment was performed in the control group. The experimental measurement period was before the experimental treatment, 4 weeks and 8 weeks after the application of the exercise program. Body composition, depression, and autonomic activity were measured for a total of 3 times to confirm the interaction effect on time and group. Body composition was measured using a body composition analyzer to measure the fat and muscle thickness of the deltoid shoulder, biceps brachii, gastrocnemius and tibialis anterior muscle. Depression was measured using NRS, and autonomic nerve activity was measured using a pulse rate monitor (Canopy 9 RSA) device to measure LF indicating sympathetic activity and HF indicating parasympathetic activity. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS for window 26.0. To verify the homogeneity of the subjects' general characteristics, frequency, percentage, mean, ?2-test, and t-test were analyzed, and t-test analysis was performed to verify the homogeneity of the pre-dependent variable. In order to verify the post-effect, it was analyzed by t-test and Repeated Measures ANOVA. Partial eta squares between groups and time were analyzed to explain the degree of influence between the independent and dependent variables. According to the analysis, there was no significant difference between the general characteristics and the pre-homogeneity of the dependent variable before the experimental treatment, so homogeneity was secured, and the results after the experimental treatment were as follows. 1) Part 1 of Hypothesis 1 was rejected that “There will be a difference in fat thickness change between the experimental group and the control group to which the elastic band resistance exercise program was applied”. 2) Part 2 of Hypothesis 1 was supported that “There will be a difference in muscle thickness change between the experimental group and the control group to which the elastic band resistance exercise program was applied” (Lt: F=221.654, p<.001) (Rt: F=145.577, p<.001). 3) Hypothesis 2 was supported that "There will be a difference in the level of depression between the experimental group and the control group to which the elastic band resistance exercise was applied"(F=7.400, p=.002). 4) Hypothesis 3 Was partially supported that "There will be a difference in autonomic nervous system activity between the experimental group and the control group to which elastic band resistance exercise was applied". From these results, The application of the 8-week resistance exercise program using an elastic band had the effect of increasing muscle mass and decreasing depression scores of nurses in Comprehensive Nursing Care Service ward. Therefore, it is thought that the resistance exercise program using an elastic band can be used as a general intervention method applicable to daily life for the improvement of muscle mass and depression of nurses in Comprehensive Nursing Care Service ward.
