The Mindfulness App Trial for Weight, Weight related Behaviours, and Stress in University Students.

A total of 90 students enrolled in the trial (45 were randomized to the app and 45 to the e-diary control). The baseline study characteristics are summarized in the Table along with the CONSORT flow diagram. The groups were even on baseline characteristics. The mean age , weight, and other demographic variables are summarized in the table. There were no statistically significant differences in weight between the intervention and control groups at 11 weeks . The mindfulness app group had sy higher levels of mindfulness and mindful eating compared with the control at follow-up. The e-diary group also had higher levels of the following eating behaviours: emotional eating by and uncontrolled eating but not cognitive restraint when compared with the app group at follow-up Stress was lower in the app group compared with the e-diary control in adherers only as the control group had higher levels . The e-diary control had higher levels of moderate to vigorous physical activity . Overall the effects were small however. There were no s differences between groups on other physical activity indicators. Whilst neither lost weight, there was no weight gain in either group in the within group analyses. A total of 94% liked the app and there was a rentention of 80% (but regular adherence was low). The most helpful reported exercise was observing the breath.

入选标准
- •healthy undergraduate students 18-25 years of age owning a smartphone with a desire to lose weight. All healthy students wishing to lose weight are eligible , they do not have to meet the cut offs for overweight and obese (BMI >25 kg/m2 and >30 kg/m2).
排除标准
- •Students <18 years of age will be excluded and those >25 years of age.pregnant women will be excluded. This study is for healthy individuals. Students with any reported history of any serious pre-existing medical conditions will be excluded. This includes eating disorders, psychiatric illnesses, and any underlying reported history of physical illness where weight loss is contraindicated. Students with a BMI of 20 or less will be excluded.
