简要总结

EFL prevalence was 16.5% by PEEP reduction maneuver and associated with higher hospital mortality. We validated an alternative method for EFL detection (the analysis of expiratory resistance or Rex) which showed excellent agreement with PEEP reduction method. Rex analysis can detect 2 subtypes of EFL and we had proposed that they originate from different pathogenesis. These two types of EFL seem to respond differently to the applied PEEP. See the publication for details.

入选标准

  • 1. Admitted to the intensive and intermediate critical care wards
  • 2. Receiving invasive mechanical ventilation via a ventilator that is capable of transmitting data through RS-232 port
  • 3. The relatives consent for the patient to participate in the research
  • 4. Permission to do the study is granted from the clinicians in charge
  • 5. Able to initiate the data collection within 48 hours after ventilator use

排除标准

  • 1. Severe hypoxemia (SpO2 < 90%) which is uncorrectable
  • 2. Unstable hemodynamics which cannot be corrected (mABP < 60 mmHg, SBP > 180 mmHg, heart rate < 40/min or > 160/min)
  • 3. The patient has already participated in the current study within 48 hours from the previous data collection
  • 4. The patient or the relatives deny to participate in the study
  • 5. Contraindicated to ventilation at ZEEP (ARDS)
