This studywill be conducted to study the prevalence , distribution and severity of tonguecoating according to the proposed classification of Tongue Coating SeverityIndex.
A total of200 periodontally andsystemically healthy patients with age range of 20-60 years including bothmale and female visiting the Department of Periodontics and implantology atVSPM Dental College and research centre Nagpur will be recruited.
A brief description of entire procedure will be given to every patientbefore starting procedure.
Patients will be assessed clinically and astandardised digital photograph of the dorsal surface will be taken with thetongue protruded from the oral cavity. The dorsal surface of the tonguephotograph then will be marked and divided into three equal areas of anterior,middle and posterior sections as mentioned in the classification which is givenas under.
Considering the limitations in the currentlyavailable indices for evaluation of tongue coating indices, we propose a simplisticmethod of evaluation of the same. The simple method ensures that the examinerwill be easily able to calculate the tongue coating severity index in lesstime. This will also enable the utilisation of this scoring system on a largerpopulation. Accordingly, the dorsal surface or the tongue will be divided intothree equal parts antero-posteriorly. The surface coatings present in each ofthese parts will be calculated separately and then the scores of all the threeparts will be added.

- •1.Periodontally healthy males and females between the age group of 20-60 years.
- •Patients who are willing to participate and sign the informed consent for this clinical trial.
排除标准
- •Patients with periodontal and systemic diseases.
- •Patients with pregnancy or a history of taking medications known to increase the risk of gingival hyperplasia.
