The study tests the short (post- intervention) and long-term (9-month follow-up) effectiveness of a newly developed Enhancing Contact Model (ECM) Intervention for reducing self-stigma in family caregivers of persons with schizophrenia, and examines whether ECM is more effective on reducing self-stigma than Psychoeducational Family Intervention (PFI).

入选标准

  • The inclusion criteria for family caregivers:
  • Being the father or mother of a person with schizophrenia identified in 2015;
  • Aged 38- 75 years;
  • Living together with and caring for the patient;
  • Not participants in our prior PFI studies;
  • Be able to provide written informed consent.
  • The inclusion criteria for person with schizophrenia:
  • Be identified in the 2015 survey;
  • Aged >=18 years;
  • Not participants in our prior PFI studies.

排除标准

  • The exclusion criteria for the family caregivers:
  • likely to engage in a risk behavior (e.g., suicide or violence) imminently;
  • Be identified by a trained health professional as unsuitable to join the study (e.g., with mental illness).
