- •a digital rectal examination is indicated and consents to partake in the study

- •Patients who are too ill to communicate and consent
- •painful anal conditions (anal fissures, thrombosed hemorrhoids, infiltrating anorectal cancers)
- •rectal stricture
- •Patients unwilling to participate.
