•1.Patients clinically diagnosed as Major Depressive Disorder.
•2.Treatment naive patients or who has not taken any treatment since last 1 month
•3. Cooperative & willing to participate

•1.Other depressive spectrum disorders (F34- ---)
•2.Highly agitated/ suicidal patients/ depression with psychotic symptoms who need immediate treatment
•3.ECT in past 6 months
•4.Co-morbid axis I psychiatric illness
•5.Patients with co-morbid substance abuse except Nicotine use
•6.Patients with known history of diabetes mellitus, hypertension or any long standing significant medical illness / significant neurological impairment (cerebrovascular accidents (CVA) / seizure) / clinical observable mental retardation/ History of organicity that precludes participation in study
•7.Pregnant and nursing women
