- •normal blood pressure
- •lived 15 km or less from hospital
- •willing to deliver at the hospital

- •serious medical conditions e.g. sickle cell disease or cardiac disease
- •taking vitamin C supplements >200mg/day
- •had contraindications to vitamin C
