Leisureparticipation of retired Indian elderly may be affected by urbanization as wellas due to changes in lifestyle and daily routines post retirement. Leisurebeing an occupational therapy domain has been studied extensively on westernpopulation, but research on leisure participation of Indian elderly from anoccupational therapy perspective is not available.
Asleisure is highly influenced by personal interests, health status, resources,cultural and contextual factors, participation of Indian elderly may bedifferent from that of western countries and so their perspective regardingleisure may differ. Furthermore,in India the attitudes of family members influence the participation andbehaviour of elderly. It is therefore imperative to understand theperspectives of Indian elderly and their family members regarding leisureoccupations.
