Effectiveness of music therapy on reduction of anxiety and pain perception in parturient mothers admitted for labour at JIPMER- A Randomized control trial

This study is a randomized control trial to know the effectiveness of music therapy on reduction of anxiety and pain perception of parturient mother admitted in JIPMER. Parturient mothers who are willing and  meet the criteria  will be randomly assigned to either the experimental group or control group.The background demographic and clinical data will be obtained using semi-structured interview and record review. Preference of music will be assessed through semi-structured interview from experimental mother at the time of admission. All the parturient mothers will receive Inj Tramadol 50mg IM as standard routine care, additionally experimental group will  listen to type of music individualized according to the choice of mother  for 30min using bluetooth. Music therapy will be provided uniformally to all mothers after 4-5cm cervical dilatation for minimum 3 times. These musics will be validated by experts from the field of music, obstetrics and field of nursing. Baseline anxiety and pain perception of parturient mothers of both the group will be assessed  using C.D Speilberger’s scale of state trait anxiety inventory and Numerical pain intensity scale respectively. Pain perception is assessed intermittently after each set of music therapy. After completion of music therapy, post test anxiety level and pain perception of parturient mothers of both group will be  assessed .
