Ziltivekimab is an investigational IL-6 inhibitor developed by Novo Nordisk to test whether suppressing inflammation reduces cardiovascular events. Completed studies showed that ziltivekimab lowers inflammation, as measured by IL-6 and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) levels, but the phase 3 ZEUS trial failed to reduce cardiovascular events despite confirmed IL-6 target engagement. Novo Nordisk then discontinued two further late-stage trials of ziltivekimab in heart failure, while the ARTEMIS trial in patients with acute myocardial infarction continues.

Ziltivekimab is an interleukin-6 (IL-6) inhibitor - a monoclonal antibody directed against IL-6 - that blocks IL-6-mediated inflammatory signalling. It is being developed on the hypothesis that suppressing IL-6-driven inflammation reduces cardiovascular events.
