AdvanCell Appoints Alpha Therapy Pioneer Andrew Kay as Board Chair to Lead PSMA-Targeted Radiopharmaceutical Development
核心洞察
AdvanCell has appointed Andrew Kay, former CEO of Algeta ASA, as Chair-elect of its Board of Directors, bringing expertise from the successful $2.9 billion development and commercialization of Xofigo, the first approved alpha therapy.
Kay's appointment comes as AdvanCell advances its lead asset ADVC001, a potentially first-in-class PSMA (搜索)-targeted alpha therapy, following promising Phase 1 trial results presented at ESMO.
The leadership transition positions AdvanCell to accelerate clinical development of its Lead-212 platform and expand manufacturing capabilities in the US for global late-stage development.
AdvanCell, a clinical-stage radiopharmaceutical company developing targeted alpha therapies for cancer, has appointed Andrew Kay as Director and Chair-elect of its Board of Directors, succeeding Bill Ferris AC. The appointment brings critical expertise in alpha-emitting radiopharmaceuticals as the company advances its lead asset ADVC001 in prostate cancer.
Proven Track Record in Alpha Therapy Development
Kay served as Chief Executive Officer of Algeta ASA from 2009 until its $2.9 billion acquisition by Bayer in 2014, where he led the development and commercialization of Xofigo (Radium-223 dichloride), the first alpha-emitting radiopharmaceutical approved by both the US Food and Drug Administration and the European Medicines Agency for treating bone metastases in castration-resistant prostate cancer.
Under Kay's leadership, Algeta conducted a successful Phase 3 trial with Radium-223 dichloride and established commercial, medical and regulatory functions in the US, along with manufacturing scale-up capabilities as part of a global partnership with Bayer. The company successfully launched Xofigo in the US with Bayer before the acquisition.
Kay's career includes senior global roles with major pharmaceutical companies, including Global Head of Marketing & Sales at Novartis, Vice President positions at Zeneca, and roles with Eli Lilly and Sandoz. He currently serves as Chair of NeRRe Therapeutics and previously chaired Wilson Therapeutics (acquired by Alexion) and KaNDy Therapeutics (acquired by Bayer).
Strategic Timing for ADVC001 Development
The appointment comes at a pivotal moment for AdvanCell, which recently unveiled promising Phase 1 trial results with ADVC001 in prostate cancer at ESMO and is establishing manufacturing capabilities in the US to support global late-stage development.
"I am honored to be joining AdvanCell at such an exciting and pivotal stage, with the unveiling of the Company's first and very promising Phase 1 trial results with ADVC001 in prostate cancer at ESMO," Kay commented. "My time with Algeta gave me important insights into the therapeutic benefits of alpha-emitting therapies for cancer, including those linked to precision targeting molecules, which I believe will transform the oncology treatment landscape."
Lead-212 Platform and PSMA Targeting
AdvanCell's proprietary Lead-212 platform represents a differentiated approach in the targeted alpha therapy space. The company's lead asset ADVC001 is positioned as a potentially first-in-class PSMA (搜索)-targeted alpha therapy, addressing an important target in prostate cancer treatment.
Bill Ferris AC, the outgoing Chair who will continue as Director, highlighted the company's achievements: "I am proud of what our team has achieved in building a world-class, vertically integrated Lead-212 platform and advancing ADVC001 into the clinic as a potentially first-in-class PSMA (搜索)-targeted alpha therapy."
Manufacturing Scale-Up and Global Expansion
The leadership transition supports AdvanCell's strategic expansion plans, including manufacturing scale-up in the US market. Andrew Adamovich, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of AdvanCell, emphasized the strategic value of Kay's appointment: "His track record in oncology, particularly in bringing the first and currently only alpha therapy to the US market, is unparalleled. This is exactly the experience AdvanCell will benefit from as we advance the clinical trials of ADVC001 in prostate cancer, expand manufacturing to the US and accelerate the development of our promising and differentiated targeted alpha therapy pipeline."
AdvanCell operates as a vertically integrated, clinical-stage radiopharmaceutical company dedicated to developing innovative cancer therapies that harness targeted alpha-emitting radionuclides. The company aims to deliver novel treatments that improve outcomes for patients with cancer globally through its proprietary Lead-212 platform, advanced manufacturing capabilities, and clinical development expertise.
