Agomab and SpyGlass Raise Combined $350M in Biotech IPOs, Signaling Market Recovery
核心洞察
Agomab Therapeutics and SpyGlass Pharma (搜索) secured a combined $350 million in separate IPOs on Thursday, with both companies beginning Nasdaq trading on Friday.
The offerings represent the third and fourth biotech IPOs this week, marking the busiest seven-day stretch for new biotech stock offerings in about a year.
Agomab's lead candidate ontunisertib (搜索) targets fibrostenosing Crohn's disease (搜索) and is currently in Phase 2 trials, while SpyGlass's bimatoprost drug-device system for glaucoma (搜索) entered Phase 3 studies in July 2025.
Agomab Therapeutics and SpyGlass Pharma (搜索) secured a combined $350 million in two separate initial public offerings on Thursday, ending a week that has seen investors pour more than $1 billion into the coffers of newly public biotechnology companies. The successful debuts signal a potential recovery in biotech IPO activity after years of challenging market conditions.
SpyGlass, which is developing long-acting therapies for ocular diseases, raised $150 million by selling nearly 9.4 million shares for $16 apiece. Agomab, focused on medicines for inflammatory conditions, followed with a $200 million stock sale of 12.5 million American depositary shares at $16 each. Both companies began trading on Nasdaq on Friday under the ticker symbols "SGP" and "AGMB" respectively.
Market Recovery Gains Momentum
The IPOs represent the third and fourth for drug companies this week, marking the busiest seven-day stretch for new biotech stock offerings in about a year. Hair loss treatment developer Veradermics (搜索) banked $256 million on Tuesday, while cancer drugmaker Eikon Therapeutics grabbed $381 million a day later.
Several of these offerings rank among the largest the biotech sector has seen since the start of 2024. Aktis Oncology, Eikon and Veradermics (搜索) have all topped $250 million in IPO proceeds, a mark reached by only three of the 11 companies to go public in 2025 — Metsera, MapLight Therapeutics and LB Pharmaceuticals.
IPOs have been difficult for drug startups to execute since the start of 2022, with generalist investors largely pulling back from life sciences while venture investors focused on seemingly safer biotech bets amid poor performance for many companies that reached Wall Street. Offering totals hit their lowest point in 2025, when just 11 drug developers went public.
However, many of those companies have seen their share values climb amid a broader biotech rebound, generating optimism about a potential uptick in offerings in 2026. Shares in Sionna Therapeutics and Maze Therapeutics, both of which priced offerings toward the beginning of 2025, have more than doubled in value since. Metsera, which closed 2025's second-largest IPO, was acquired by Pfizer in a $10 billion deal.
Agomab's Inflammatory Disease Pipeline
Belgium-headquartered Agomab has three drugs in development for immunological diseases. Its most advanced candidate is ontunisertib (搜索), which is being developed for "fibrostenosing" Crohn's disease, a severe complication where scar tissue buildup narrows the intestine. This condition is associated with significant morbidity, according to the company's regulatory filing.
Designed to act in the gastrointestinal tract, ontunisertib (搜索) is an orally available small-molecule blocker of the ALK5 (搜索) protein. Agomab completed one mid-stage study in November and is currently conducting the 48-week open-label extension phase of the Phase 2a STENOVA study, with data expected in the second half of this year. The company plans to start a second Phase 2b study later this year.
The European biotech has a second drug in human testing that could serve as a standalone treatment or combination agent for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (搜索). Data from an early-stage study could emerge in the second half of 2026. Prior to its IPO, Agomab raised nearly $300 million in venture funding.
SpyGlass's Ocular Innovation
California-based SpyGlass is developing drug-device combinations for ocular conditions. Its lead program is a lens implanted during cataract surgery that treats glaucoma (搜索) and ocular hypertension (搜索) by slowly releasing medication to lower eye pressure. The therapy, codenamed BIM-IOL, uses attached drug pads to deliver sustained doses of the prostaglandin analog bimatoprost.
SpyGlass launched two registrational Phase 3 studies for BIM-IOL in July 2025, each targeting around 400 participants. The company expects to complete enrollment in 2027, with an approval application tentatively planned for 2028. A second treatment using a different delivery system should start human testing this year.
The biotech was backed by venture investors including New Enterprise Associates, Vertex Ventures and RA Capital, securing approximately $200 million in private financing before its public debut. Funds raised from the IPO will primarily support completion of the Phase 3 trials and, if approved, the initial commercial launch of the bimatoprost candidate.
SpyGlass is targeting the Nasdaq Global Select Market, a more exclusive listing with stringent requirements, reflecting the company's advanced clinical stage and strong financial backing. The successful completion of these IPOs, along with other recent biotech debuts, suggests growing investor appetite for innovative therapeutics addressing significant unmet medical needs.
