Rosie, an eight-year-old rescue dog adopted by Conyngham in 2019, was diagnosed with deadly mast cell cancer (搜索) in 2024. Using a chatbot to brainstorm treatment ideas, he was directed to partner with Australia's leading genomics researchers.

The vaccine, administered over the Christmas break in 2025, produced remarkable results that surprised the research team. "It was like holy crap, it worked!" Smith recalled. "The recovery has astounded researchers at the cutting-edge of human cancer (搜索) treatments."

Scientific Perspective and Cautions
Despite the promising results, some scientists urge caution regarding the significance of these early findings. Biomedical engineer Patrick Heiser noted on social media that while the story is impressive, creating a single mRNA vaccine is not particularly challenging from a technical standpoint.
"Sorry to be the downer because this is an impressive story in some senses. But it is trivially easy to make a single mRNA vaccine. It's not hard," Heiser wrote. "It is impressive. But y'all are overhyping it."
Heiser emphasized the complexity of proving therapeutic efficacy, sharing his own research experience: "I literally have an ongoing cancer (搜索) experiment where 100% of the untreated and control animals have had to be euthanised, while 100% of the treatment animals are seemingly unaffected. But we're still extremely far away from 'proving that it works'. Science is hard."
