This partnership marks a significant milestone as the country's first industry-academia collaboration initiated through the CSR route in these critical therapeutic areas.
Substantial Investment in Medical Innovation
Under the collaboration, Alkem Foundation (搜索) will fund the establishment of the "Alkem Centre for Advanced Research in Applied Immuno-Therapeutics (搜索) and Regenerative Medicines (搜索)" at the IIT Bombay campus. The foundation has committed to contribute a substantial 20-25% of its cumulative CSR obligations over seven years to support this initiative, representing a pioneering step in fostering cutting-edge research in complex disease areas with significant unmet medical needs.
Combining Industry Expertise with Academic Excellence
The partnership strategically combines Alkem's pharmaceutical industry insights and experience in developing healthcare solutions with IIT Bombay's expertise in biomedical engineering, biosciences, and translational research. "At Alkem, we understand the critical role of scientific advancement and transformative research in addressing unmet medical needs," said Madhurima Singh, Executive Director and Chairperson of the CSR and Sustainability Committee at Alkem. "Despite government encouragement, only a small share of corporate CSR spending in India goes towards R&D. We saw it as our responsibility to go beyond business and support R&D in the important field of immuno-therapeutics (搜索) and regenerative medicines (搜索) through CSR."

The new research centre is being developed to build a comprehensive ecosystem that enables innovation, research, and skill development in complex and underserved therapy areas. The centre will focus on advancing several key areas:
