Allonnia (搜索), a Boston-based biotechnology company developing solutions for mineral recovery and environmental impact reduction, has raised more than $20 million in a Series A extension round. The financing was led by Viking Global Investors (搜索), Bison Ventures (搜索), General Atlantic (搜索), BHP Ventures (搜索), and Pivotal Capital Partners (搜索), bringing the company's total funding to more than $100 million.
The funding comes as global demand for copper, nickel, lithium, and rare earth elements continues to accelerate, driven by electric vehicles, grid electrification, artificial intelligence data centers, and national security systems. Simultaneously, declining ore grades, which have fallen by as much as 50% over recent decades, are placing increased pressure on miners to extract greater value from existing operations while limiting environmental impact.
D-Solve Platform Demonstrates Commercial Potential
Allonnia (搜索)'s D-Solve (搜索) platform is designed to integrate directly into existing mineral processing flowsheets as a bolt-on process. The technology uses Allonnia Biosolution (搜索), a selective, recyclable solution that dissolves and removes problematic gangue minerals, producing cleaner, higher-value concentrates. By improving recovery and throughput, the platform aims to reduce tailings volumes and lower chemical usage at mine sites.
The company achieved significant milestones during a five-day continuous demonstration conducted at SGS Lakefield (搜索) in Ontario, where the technology achieved a 40% reduction in magnesium impurities and an 18% increase in nickel grade. Building on these results, Allonnia (搜索) announced plans to deploy its first mobile D-Solve (搜索) unit at Eagle Mine (搜索), the only active nickel mine in North America, with field operations beginning in December.
Commercial Deployment and Market Expansion
The Series A extension funding will support the commercial rollout of D-Solve (搜索), including the deployment of the first mine-site pilot. This represents a critical transition from laboratory and pilot-scale successes to commercial deployments across active mine sites.
