ZUNVEYL represents a new generation acetylcholinesterase inhibitor specifically designed to minimize gastrointestinal side effects commonly associated with existing Alzheimer's treatments. The drug's active metabolite demonstrates a differentiated profile from established therapies donepezil and rivastigmine through its binding to neuronal nicotinic receptors, most notably the alpha-7 subtype, which is known to have positive effects on cognition.
The company is also developing ALPHA-1062 in combination with memantine for moderate to severe Alzheimer's dementia, as well as an intranasal formulation targeting cognitive impairment associated with traumatic brain injury.
