The EU's CHMP (搜索) has recommended approval of Imfinzi plus FLOT chemotherapy (搜索) as the first immunotherapy-based perioperative treatment for early-stage and locally advanced gastric and gastroesophageal junction cancers.
AstraZeneca PLC has successfully completed its direct listing on the New York Stock Exchange, marking a significant milestone in the pharmaceutical giant's strategy to harmonise its global listing structure while simultaneously advancing its oncology pipeline with a major regulatory recommendation in Europe.
NYSE Direct Listing Creates Global Trading Platform
The company's ordinary shares and debt securities began trading directly on the NYSE (搜索) on February 2, 2026, following the termination of its American Depositary Receipts listing on Nasdaq (搜索) on January 30, 2026. The move establishes a unified global listing structure across the NYSE, London Stock Exchange, and Nasdaq Stockholm, all trading under the ticker symbol "AZN".
"This marks the start of an exciting new period for AstraZeneca, one which we believe gives broader access to the largest capital market in the world," said Chair Michel Demaré. The harmonised listing "reflects strong shareholder support for our growth strategy and positions AstraZeneca to deliver more innovative medicines to more patients around the world."
Lynn Martin, president of NYSE (搜索) Group, welcomed the pharmaceutical company, stating: "Today we are proud to welcome AstraZeneca to the NYSE, where it joins a community of groundbreakers and industry leaders. Through its listing on the world's largest and most liquid capital market, the company is well-positioned to expand its global investor base and accelerate its commitment to delivering innovation to patients and the wider biopharmaceutical industry."
The direct listing represents the culmination of AstraZeneca's shareholder-approved plan to create a global listing for global investors, eliminating the previous ADR structure where each two ADRs represented one ordinary share.
EU Recommends Breakthrough Gastric Cancer Treatment
Concurrent with the listing milestone, AstraZeneca announced that the European Union's Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP (搜索)) has recommended approval of Imfinzi (durvalumab) plus FLOT chemotherapy (搜索) as a perioperative treatment for patients with early-stage and locally advanced gastric and gastroesophageal junction cancers.
The recommendation is based on results from the Phase III Matterhorn trial, which demonstrated significant clinical benefits. The Imfinzi-based perioperative regimen showed a 29% reduction in disease progression, recurrence or death, and a 22% reduction in mortality compared to chemotherapy alone.
"This durvalumab-based perioperative regimen is the first immunotherapy approach to significantly extend survival in this setting," said Josep Tabernero, the trial's lead investigator.
If approved, Imfinzi would become the first immunotherapy-based perioperative treatment option for this indication in the European Union. The perioperative approach involves administering treatment before, during, and after surgery, representing a comprehensive therapeutic strategy for gastric cancer (搜索) patients.
Strategic Positioning for Growth
The dual announcements underscore AstraZeneca's strategic positioning as both a global financial entity and innovative pharmaceutical developer. The NYSE (搜索) listing provides enhanced access to international capital markets, while the Imfinzi recommendation reinforces the company's leadership in oncology immunotherapy.
AstraZeneca, based in Cambridge, UK, focuses on the discovery, development, and commercialisation of prescription medicines across Oncology, Rare Diseases, and BioPharmaceuticals, including Cardiovascular, Renal & Metabolism, and Respiratory & Immunology therapeutic areas. The company's innovative medicines are sold in more than 125 countries and used by millions of patients worldwide.
Approval decisions for the Imfinzi perioperative regimen are pending in other regions beyond the European Union, potentially expanding the treatment's global availability for gastric cancer (搜索) patients.
