Lannett, established in 1942, is a US-based manufacturer and supplier of complex generic pharmaceuticals, with particular expertise in DEA controlled substances and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (搜索) (ADHD (搜索)) treatments. The company has built strong capabilities in non-opioid controlled substances and generic liquid formulations, areas where Aurobindo currently has limited exposure.
"This acquisition strengthens Aurobindo's ability to serve the U.S. generics space and provides strategic diversification into a specialized, high-value therapeutic category," the company stated in its BSE filing.
Manufacturing Infrastructure and Capacity
The acquisition includes Lannett's 425,000 square foot cGMP manufacturing facility located in Seymour, Indiana. The facility demonstrates significant manufacturing capabilities with an annual capacity of approximately 3.6 billion tablets and the ability to produce multiple dosage forms including tablets, capsules, powders, and liquids. The facility maintains a strong regulatory and DEA compliance track record.
Aurobindo highlighted that the facility offers "significant excess capacity and with potential for further expansion," providing room for future growth in the US market.
Financial Performance and Portfolio Value
Lannett generated revenue of $286 million in 2024, with projections of $306 million for 2025. The company's portfolio focuses primarily on profitable products in the controlled substances space, particularly non-opioid ADHD (搜索) therapeutics.
The acquisition will provide Aurobindo access to a complementary portfolio of products and a growing Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) business, expanding its service capabilities in the US pharmaceutical market.
Regulatory Timeline and Strategic Alignment
The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals, including clearance from the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (搜索), and is expected to be completed within 8 to 12 months. The acquisition will be funded through cash consideration.
