Avicanna's Novel PwdRx Platform Shows 74% Higher Bioavailability for Cannabinoid Delivery in Preclinical Studies
核心洞察
Avicanna (搜索)'s PwdRx drug delivery platform demonstrated 74% higher bioavailability, 63% faster peak plasma levels, and 134% higher peak plasma concentration compared to conventional MCT oil formulations in preclinical studies.
The company filed a provisional patent application with the USPTO covering the novel powder-based delivery system that addresses poor water solubility and variable bioavailability challenges of lipophilic cannabinoids.
The technology is designed for scalable pharmaceutical production across multiple dosage forms including tablets, capsules, sachets, and pouches, with potential applications in pain and inflammation conditions.
Avicanna (搜索) Inc. announced positive preclinical results for its novel Powder Drug Delivery System (PwdRx) platform, demonstrating significantly enhanced bioavailability and absorption of cannabinoids compared to conventional formulations. The biopharmaceutical company also filed a provisional patent application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office for the innovative delivery technology.
Superior Pharmacokinetic Performance
The PwdRx platform was specifically developed to address formulation challenges associated with highly lipophilic cannabinoids including CBD, CBG (搜索), THC, and CBN, which typically exhibit poor water solubility, low and variable bioavailability, and delayed onset of action. In recent in-vitro studies, the technology demonstrated statistically significant improvements across key pharmacokinetic parameters.
The preclinical data showed the PwdRx formulation achieved 74% higher bioavailability (AUC), 63% faster peak plasma levels (TMAX), and 134% higher peak plasma concentration (CMAX) when compared to standard medium-chain triglyceride (MCT) oil-based formulations. These results were obtained from a healthy in-vitro model study with 16 subjects, showing statistical significance with p<0.001.
Manufacturing Versatility and Clinical Applications
Beyond enhanced bioavailability and faster uptake, the PwdRx technology is designed to deliver long-term stability and manufacturing versatility. The platform supports scalable pharmaceutical production across multiple solid-oral and powder-based formats, including tablets, capsules, sachets, and pouches. The pharmaceutical dosage form also offers tunable drug release capabilities to enable differentiated product profiles tailored to specific patient needs.
"By improving dispersion, solubility and consistency of uptake, the PwdRx platform has the potential to enable health care providers greater flexibility to tailor potential treatment options for patients managing conditions associated with pain and inflammation," said Dr. Karolina Urban, EVP, Medical and Scientific Affairs of Avicanna (搜索).
Patent Protection and Therapeutic Scope
The provisional patent filing covers the composition, methods of use, and potential utility of the PwdRx platform in pain and inflammation applications. The patent protection extends to conditions including rheumatoid arthritis (搜索), osteoarthritis (搜索), neuropathic pain (搜索), fibromyalgia (搜索), migraine (搜索), and multiple sclerosis (搜索).
"The advancement of our PwdRx platform represents another significant step forward in the science and technology of cannabinoid delivery and further strengthens our global intellectual property portfolio," said Aras Azadian, Chief Executive Officer of Avicanna (搜索). "We believe this novel technology will unlock potential new and different pharmaceutical and commercial product opportunities and further demonstrates Avicanna's leadership in advancing innovation in the science and technology of cannabinoids."
The company indicated plans to advance the technology into its pharmaceutical pipeline for further clinical evaluation, building on its established scientific platform that has led to the commercialization of more than thirty proprietary, evidence-based finished products across four commercial business pillars.
