Dr. Rogers offered a practical recommendation: "I often recommend mineral sunscreens, especially for anyone who is pregnant or has sensitive skin. That said, a well-formulated chemical sunscreen can be an excellent option for those who prefer a more lightweight or invisible finish."
Expert Guidance on Optimal Protection
Dermatologists consistently recommend broad-spectrum protection against both UVA and UVB rays, with an SPF of at least 30. SPF 30 protects against 97 percent of the sun's rays, while SPF 50 protects against 98 percent. Dr. Chang recommends reapplying every two to three hours of sun exposure, even when indoors near a window.
The consensus among experts is clear: the best sunscreen is the one a person will use consistently.
