BioArctic AB and Eli Lilly and Company have entered into a research and collaboration agreement aimed at developing a novel treatment for neurodegenerative diseases, the Swedish biopharma company announced on June 22, 2026. The deal pairs BioArctic's proprietary BrainTransporter technology with an undisclosed Lilly drug candidate, with Lilly assuming full responsibility for global development and commercialization.
Under the terms of the agreement, BioArctic will receive a $30 million upfront payment and stands to gain up to $770 million in additional milestone payments. The company is also entitled to tiered mid-single-digit royalties on future global product sales should the candidate reach the market.

The BrainTransporter Platform
BioArctic's BrainTransporter technology is designed to facilitate the passage of drugs into the brain by leveraging the transferrin receptor (搜索) (TfR). Active transport of medicines across the blood-brain barrier can result in broader brain distribution, potentially enabling better efficacy, an improved safety profile, and more convenient dosing. The platform can be applied across a multitude of therapy areas for delivery of biologics and other modalities to the brain.
A Growing Partnership Portfolio
This agreement represents the fourth collaboration BioArctic has entered into with partners utilizing the BrainTransporter technology. Previous agreements include a research evaluation agreement regarding BAN2802 with Eisai, a global license agreement with Bristol Myers Squibb (搜索) for BioArctic's PyroGlutamate-amyloid-beta antibody program, and an option, collaboration, and license agreement with Novartis.
BioArctic retains all rights for use of the BrainTransporter platform outside the scope of these four agreements, leaving the door open for future partnering opportunities.
BioArctic's Legacy in Neurodegeneration
BioArctic is the inventor of Leqembi (lecanemab), the world's first drug proven to slow disease progression and reduce cognitive impairment in early Alzheimer's disease (搜索). Leqembi was developed together with partner Eisai, which holds responsibility for global regulatory interactions and commercialization. Beyond Alzheimer's, BioArctic maintains a broad research portfolio with antibodies targeting Parkinson's disease (搜索) and ALS (搜索), with several programs employing the BrainTransporter technology.
