Clinical Outcomes Show Durable Benefits
The minimally invasive CardiAMP Cell Therapy procedure demonstrated an average 179-second improvement in exercise tolerance that persisted throughout the two-year study follow-up period. Patients also experienced an 82% reduction in angina episodes by six months after treatment, with benefits maintained through the full study duration.
All enrolled patients were on guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT) and had received all available percutaneous and/or surgical options appropriate for their medical condition prior to treatment. The therapy was well tolerated with no treatment-emergent major adverse cardiac events reported.
"Chronic ischemic heart disease (搜索) results in considerable limitations of daily life activities due to chest discomfort, shortness of breath, and related disabling symptoms despite optimal medical therapy," said Carl Pepine, MD, MACC, Professor of Medicine, Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, University of Florida at Gainesville. "A cell-based approach, added to this medical therapy, has potential to better manage these symptoms and improve the quality of life."
Addressing Critical Unmet Medical Need
Chronic myocardial ischemia (搜索) with refractory angina (搜索) represents a significant unmet medical need, estimated to impact 600,000 to 1.8 million patients in the United States. The condition occurs when reduced blood flow to the heart causes chest pain that cannot be controlled by optimal medical therapy, angioplasty, or bypass surgery. Up to 15% of patients with ischemia or angina who undergo cardiac catheterization are suboptimal candidates for conventional revascularization.
Patients with refractory angina (搜索) experience significantly impaired quality of life with disproportionately high utilization of healthcare services, reflecting the great need for new therapies for this population.
Innovative Therapeutic Approach
CardiAMP Cell Therapy uses autologous bone marrow cells delivered to the heart through a minimally invasive, catheter-based procedure designed to stimulate the body's natural healing response. The therapy incorporates three proprietary elements not previously utilized in investigational cardiac cell therapy: a pre-procedural cell analysis for patient selection, a high target dosage of cells, and a proprietary delivery system.
The pre-procedural cell potency screen for patient selection represents a design element specifically intended to address the reproducibility failures that affected earlier cardiac cell therapy programs. The delivery system has been shown to be safer than other intramyocardial delivery systems and exponentially more successful in cell retention.
Regulatory and Development Status
The FDA has designated CardiAMP Cell Therapy as a Breakthrough Therapy for Ischemic Heart Failure (搜索). The CardiAMP cell therapy trials for both chronic myocardial ischemia (搜索) and ischemic heart failure indications are covered by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid (搜索) for both treatment and control procedures, removing a funding obstacle that has stalled comparable programs.

The upcoming randomized phase will be critical in determining whether the observed improvements exceed placebo effects, particularly important given that exercise tolerance and angina frequency are patient-reported or performance-based outcomes historically susceptible to unblinding effects.
The therapy is currently limited by United States law to investigational use, with continued clinical development needed to validate this novel approach for patients with severely symptomatic refractory angina (搜索).
