Biocon Appoints Shreehas Tambe as CEO Following Major Organizational Restructuring

Biocon Limited has announced the appointment of Shreehas Tambe as Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, effective April 1, 2026, as part of a comprehensive organizational restructuring following the full integration of Biocon Biologics (搜索) Limited as a wholly owned subsidiary.
The Board of Directors approved the leadership changes on March 27, 2026, accepting the resignation of current CEO and Managing Director Siddharth Mittal, who will transition to another leadership role within the Biocon Group. Tambe's appointment is subject to shareholder approval and will span five years from April 1, 2026.
Strategic Integration Creates Unified Platform
The leadership transition accompanies the creation of a simplified and unified corporate structure that combines Biocon's generics (搜索) and biosimilars (搜索) businesses. According to Executive Chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, this integration positions the company as "a uniquely positioned, globally scaled biopharma enterprise" focused on diabetes (搜索), obesity (搜索), oncology (搜索), and immunology (搜索) through a differentiated portfolio of biosimilars, insulins (搜索), complex generics, and peptides (搜索), including GLP-1 therapies (搜索).
"Biocon has consistently grown by anticipating patient needs and building ahead of the curve," Mazumdar-Shaw stated. "With the integration of our generics (搜索) and biosimilars (搜索) businesses, we are creating a uniquely positioned, globally scaled biopharma enterprise."
Proven Leadership Track Record
Tambe brings nearly three decades of experience at Biocon, having most recently served as CEO and Managing Director of Biocon Biologics (搜索). Under his leadership, Biocon Biologics emerged as one of the world's top five biosimilar companies by revenue, achieving a valuation of USD 5.5 billion in 2025. He also led the strategic acquisition of Viatris' biosimilars (搜索) business, significantly expanding the company's global footprint.
"Shreehas has been at the forefront of this transformation, leading several strategic milestones, including the acquisition and integration of the Viatris biosimilars (搜索) business and the expansion of our global footprint," Mazumdar-Shaw noted.
Tambe holds a Master's degree in Bioprocess Technology and will become the first CEO to lead the combined business platform.
Executive Team Restructuring
The organizational changes extend beyond the CEO position. Kedar Narayan Upadhye, previously CFO of Biocon Biologics (搜索), has been appointed as the new Chief Financial Officer, replacing interim CFO Mukesh Kamath, who is transitioning to another role within the Biocon Group.
Upadhye brings over 23 years of global leadership experience and was instrumental in Biocon Biologics (搜索)' $800 million bond issuance listed on the Singapore Exchange. He previously served as CFO for ReNew Energy Global Plc.
Additional key appointments include Akhilesh Nand as Head of Governance, Risk and Compliance, Naveen Narayanan as Chief Human Resources Officer, and Mandar Shrikant Ghatnekar as Chief Technology Officer.
Focus on Global Expansion
Speaking about his new role, Tambe emphasized the company's commitment to expanding access to life-saving treatments. "Biocon is among the few organizations that have transformed access to life-saving treatments by effectively leveraging science and technology," he said. "As we expand our portfolio and global presence, my focus will be on strengthening our foundation, consolidating our business, and accelerating sustainable growth."
The restructuring positions Biocon to leverage its combined scale and capabilities across both biologics and generics (搜索) markets, with particular strength in complex therapeutic areas including diabetes (搜索) management and oncology (搜索) treatments.
Mazumdar-Shaw acknowledged the contributions of outgoing CEO Siddharth Mittal, who joined Biocon in 2013 and served as Chief Financial Officer before becoming CEO and Managing Director. "He has served with distinction as Chief Financial Officer and later as CEO & Managing Director, playing a pivotal role in shaping the company's growth trajectory," she stated.
