Biomunex Unveils MAIT Engager Platform Data at SITC 2025, Targeting Enhanced Cancer Immunotherapy Safety
核心洞察
Biomunex presents preclinical data on its MAIT engager (搜索) platform at the 2025 SITC Annual Meeting, showcasing a new class of bispecific antibodies that target MAIT cells for cancer treatment.
MAIT engagers demonstrate superior safety profiles compared to classical CD3 (搜索)+ T cell engagers by avoiding regulatory T cell activation and cytokine release syndrome complications.
The company's BiXAb platform enables rapid generation of MAIT engagers with breakthrough potential for solid tumor treatment, with the first candidate expected to enter clinical trials soon.
French biopharmaceutical company Biomunex Pharmaceuticals (搜索) announced the presentation of preclinical data from its MAIT engager (搜索) platform at the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer's 40th Annual Meeting in National Harbor, USA, from November 5-9, 2025. Dr. Simon Plyte, the company's Chief Scientific Officer, will deliver an oral presentation titled "The MAIT Engager platform: rapid generation of several MAIT T cell engagers with significantly improved safety profile and large therapeutic window."
Revolutionary Approach to Cancer Immunotherapy
MAIT engagers represent a new therapeutic class in immuno-oncology that differs significantly from classical T cell engagers (TCEs). These bispecific antibodies identify, mobilize, and bridge MAIT cells (Mucosal-Associated Invariant T cells) to cancer cells, resulting in MAIT activation and directed tumor killing. According to Biomunex, MAIT engagers could become a breakthrough approach in treating many cancers, particularly solid tumors.
The presentation will focus on how MAIT engagers differentiate from classical CD3 (搜索)+ TCEs and highlight their superior safety profile. MAIT engagers are expected to overcome significant limitations of current CD3+ TCE therapies, including activation of regulatory T cells (Tregs) and cytokine release syndrome—serious side effects that are difficult to manage for cancer patients.
Enhanced Safety and Efficacy Profile
The Biomunex platform enables rapid generation of several MAIT engagers that are not only as potent as classical CD3 (搜索)+ T cell engagers but also provide a significantly improved safety profile with the potential for a larger therapeutic window in specific tumor types. Additionally, MAIT engagers can effectively induce the "SPARK effect," enabling long-term durable anti-cancer responses.
"MAIT engagers are an attractive approach for the treatment of cancer with breakthrough potential for redefining the standard of care for solid tumors," commented Dr. Simon Plyte. "Presenting those preclinical data as an oral communication and a poster during the 40th SITC meeting is a unique opportunity in sharing the scientific and medical potential of this innovative approach with the scientific community."
Clinical Development Timeline
Based on preclinical data, Biomunex expects the first MAIT engager (搜索) to enter clinical trials soon. The MAIT engager platform paves the way for a series of innovative new immunotherapeutics targeting many cancers.
Strategic Partnerships and Platform Technology
Biomunex has established itself as a major innovative player in oncology through recent licensing and partnership agreements. The company recently signed a major agreement with Ipsen, following other licensing and partnership deals. Dr. Pierre-Emmanuel Gerard, Biomunex's founder and President, noted that these agreements demonstrate the team's ability to develop drugs and technologies of interest for the pharmaceutical industry.
In addition to BMX-502 licensed to Ipsen, Biomunex is developing a portfolio of MAIT engager (搜索) drug candidates based on its proprietary "Plug-and-Play" BiXAb® platform. This technology enables the generation of breakthrough immunotherapies faster than most other platforms in the field, with excellent drug-like properties and high industrial yield.
The BiXAb platform has been validated through licensing agreements and collaborations with pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, including Sanofi, Onward Therapeutics (搜索), and Ipsen. Biomunex's first BiXAb drug candidate is currently in Phase 1 clinical development in partnership, as both monotherapy and in combination, in patients with certain solid tumors or hematological malignancies.
Conference Presentation Details
The abstract, numbered 1197 and ranked among the 150 best abstracts, will be presented as both a poster on November 7th and an oral presentation on November 8th. Biomunex is positioned as the first company worldwide to develop a cancer immunotherapy approach using bispecific antibodies to specifically target, engage, and redirect MAIT cells for solid tumor treatment.
