Rigorous Trial Design Targets Difficult Cases
The BR-AC (搜索)-DFU-101 study was conducted at 11 sites across the United States, enrolling 71 patients with Wagner 1 or 2 diabetic foot ulcers (搜索) over a 12-week treatment period. The trial incorporated a unique 2-week run-in period to evaluate patient response to standard care alone, with any patient experiencing greater than 30% wound size reduction excluded from randomization.
"The patient selection criteria ensured that only those patients with the hardest-to-heal wounds were enrolled, and the definition of closure followed the 2006 FDA guidance for cutaneous ulcers, the most rigorous standards established," explained Dr. Bert Slade, Chairman of BioStem's Medical Advisory Board.
The study required wounds to remain closed for 4 weeks following initial closure to qualify as achieving lasting closure, emphasizing durability of treatment outcomes rather than temporary healing.
Clinical Significance in High-Risk Population
