Bruker Makes Majority Investment in MIMETAS to Expand Human-Relevant Drug Discovery Platform

The investment expands Bruker's post-genomic portfolio into Microphysiological Systems (MPS), also known as New Approach Methodologies (NAMs).

Bruker Corporation (搜索) (Nasdaq: BRKR) has announced a majority investment in MIMETAS B.V. (搜索), a Netherlands-based developer of organ-on-a-chip platforms and advanced human tissue and disease models used in drug discovery and development. The transaction, for which financial details were not disclosed, expands Bruker's post-genomic research portfolio into Microphysiological Systems (MPS), also referred to as New Approach Methodologies (NAMs). MIMETAS will continue to operate under its existing brand and management team.
The investment positions Bruker to combine MIMETAS' human-relevant tissue models with its own capabilities in proteomics, metabolomics, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), preclinical imaging, and spatial biology. The companies intend to develop integrated products and services that connect human model systems with molecular, cellular, and spatial characterization technologies.
Organ-on-a-Chip Technology at Scale
MIMETAS develops scalable organ-on-a-chip platforms that allow researchers to study disease mechanisms and compound responses in perfused, biologically relevant systems. Its flagship OrganoPlate platform combines a standard microtiter-plate format with membrane-free microfluidic tissue cultures, supporting imaging, automated handling, and higher-throughput research and development workflows.
The MIMETAS portfolio also includes OrganoReady tissue and organoid products, supporting instruments, and contract research services. These technologies are designed to model aspects of human physiology more directly, providing pharmaceutical and biotechnology researchers with additional tools for studying disease mechanisms and evaluating potential therapies.

Industry Adoption and Validation
MIMETAS' technologies are already being incorporated into pharmaceutical research workflows. A Senior Scientific Director at a global pharmaceutical company noted that the OrganoReady Colon Organoid Model combined with the OrganoTEER system has become fully integrated into the company's toxicity-testing workflow. "The platform fits seamlessly into our routine screening and supports consistent, reproducible data generation," the director stated.
MIMETAS works with pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies across target validation, disease understanding, efficacy assessment, and safety testing. The company operates across North America, Europe, and Asia, providing both research products and contract research services.
A Future Beyond Animal Testing
Bruker believes humanized microphysiological systems could become increasingly important in drug discovery and preclinical development as researchers seek models that more closely replicate human biology. The technologies could also support the industry's ongoing shift toward alternatives to traditional animal testing.
