BVI's FineVision HP Trifocal IOL Successfully Implanted in First US Procedures Following FDA Approval

BVI has announced the successful completion of the first US implantations of its FineVision HP trifocal intraocular lens (IOL), marking a significant milestone just months after receiving FDA approval in October 2025. Five leading cataract and refractive surgeons conducted the initial procedures at surgical centers across the United States.
The surgeons who performed these inaugural procedures include Nicole R. Fram, MD, in Beverly Hills, California; Nathan M. Radcliffe, MD, in Bronx, New York; Vance Thompson, MD, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota; George O. Waring IV, MD, FACS, in Ladson, South Carolina; and Robert J. Weinstock, MD, in Largo, Florida. All five surgeons are members of BVI's U.S. Surgical Leadership Council.
Advanced Trifocal Technology Design
The FineVision HP trifocal IOL (搜索) represents the latest addition to BVI's lineup of presbyopia (搜索)-correcting lenses, featuring a proprietary diffractive trifocal IOL optic. According to BVI chief commercial officer Andy Chang, the lens was designed to support a high-contrast range of distance, intermediate and near vision under varying light conditions.
"The higher near add power is intentionally optimized to enhance fine-detail near tasks while preserving visual quality and continuity across the full range of vision, including in dim light," Chang explained.
The lens features a high add power of 3.5 diopters with optimized near vision allocation receiving the highest energy split. Additionally, it enables an optimized range of vision through two complementary add powers of 3.5 D and 1.75 D, providing continuous vision across distance, intermediate, and near focal points without sacrificing near and distance vision acuities.
Hydrophobic Material and Stability Features
The FineVision HP incorporates GFY hydrophobic raw material specifically optimized to boost long-term optical clarity. The lens design includes a proprietary POD (double C-loop) haptic platform that enables rotational stability, good centration, and predictable behavior in the capsular bag.
To address common concerns with multifocal IOLs, the device utilizes BVI's CoPODize technology, which manages the risk for halos and glare when transitioning to mesopic conditions. Clinical data supports the lens's demonstration of strong contrast sensitivity and stable visual performance across all lighting conditions, with enhanced near vision in dim light and a smooth, continuous range of vision from far to near.
Clinical Implementation and Future Access
Dr. George O. Waring IV performed one of the first implantations at the Waring Vision Institute (搜索) in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, where he serves as founder and medical director. He described the procedure as "an exciting moment for both surgeons and patients."
"The availability of the BVI FineVision HP Trifocal IOL (搜索) in the United States allows us to offer an innovative, clinically proven technology that has the potential to significantly enhance visual outcomes and patient satisfaction," Dr. Waring stated.
BVI is currently introducing the IOL to select surgeons and plans to expand access throughout the year as manufacturing capacity increases. This phased rollout approach allows the company to ensure adequate supply while gathering real-world clinical experience from experienced surgeons.
