Dr. Bot brings three decades of research and development experience focused on immune, cell, gene therapy and nanomedicines to the Frederick, Maryland-based company.
Strategic Leadership Addition
Dr. Bot will serve as a member of the Science and Technology Committee of the Board, bringing expertise from his role as founding Chief Scientific Officer and Executive Vice President of R&D at Capstan Therapeutics (搜索), which developed next-generation RNA-based precision medicines. His appointment comes at a critical juncture as Cartesian advances its pipeline and explores expansion beyond ex-vivo cell therapy.

Extensive CAR-T Experience
Dr. Bot's career includes significant leadership roles at Kite Pharma (搜索) and Kite, a Gilead Company, where he served as Chief Scientific Officer, Global Head of Translational Medicine and Head of Discovery Research. At Kite, he contributed to the development of first-in-class CAR T cell therapy products for cancer (搜索). He also held senior R&D leadership positions at MannKind (搜索) and Alliance Pharma (搜索).

Academic and Research Background
Dr. Bot has co-authored more than 200 peer-reviewed manuscripts, abstracts, book chapters, and monographs throughout his career. He received his M.D. from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Timisoara, Romania, and a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences at Mount Sinai School of Medicine.
Current Pipeline Development
Cartesian's lead asset, Descartes-08, is currently in Phase 3 clinical development for patients with generalized myasthenia gravis (搜索) through the ongoing AURORA trial. The company also plans to initiate a Phase 2 trial of Descartes-08 in myositis (搜索), expanding the therapeutic application of their CAR-T platform to additional autoimmune conditions.
The appointment positions Cartesian to leverage Dr. Bot's experience in immune engineering and cell therapy development as the company continues advancing its autoimmune-focused pipeline and evaluating new therapeutic opportunities in the evolving cell therapy landscape.
