The acquired program centers on an allogeneic, pluripotent stem cell (搜索)-derived dopaminergic progenitor therapy (搜索) currently in a first-in-human Phase 1/2 clinical trial. The therapy has received FDA Fast Track designation status as well as IND clearance for further clinical development, providing regulatory advantages for accelerated review processes.

The company's platform is designed to compress traditional cell therapy timelines and reduce production costs, addressing what the company identifies as a key barrier to commercializing complex regenerative medicine products.
Breakstone emphasized that scaling advanced cell therapies for global use is "exactly the challenge our AI-native platform was built to solve." The platform combines proprietary multiplexing technologies with a foundation model trained on massive-scale data spanning millions of unique perturbation conditions, intended to accelerate development timelines, reduce costs and improve the path to scalable manufacturing.
Leadership Appointment and Strategic Vision
To advance the clinical program, Cellular Intelligence (搜索) has appointed neurologist Nuno Mendonça, MD, as chief medical officer. Mendonça brings extensive experience from senior roles at Bial, AbbVie, and Novartis Gene Therapies, where he oversaw neuroscience and rare disease programs across North America and Europe.

The acquisition comes as Novo Nordisk has reportedly decided to discontinue its cell therapy research and development efforts across multiple programs, including diabetes, heart disease, and Parkinson's disease (搜索) candidates in early-stage trials, according to Danish publication Borsen in October. Novo Nordisk sought a partner capable of advancing the program's scientific and manufacturing complexity.
