Just 17 months after emerging from stealth, AI startup Collate (搜索) has secured $95 million in Series A funding to automate the mountain of paperwork that burdens pharmaceutical and life sciences organizations. The round, led by Redpoint Ventures (搜索) with participation from First Round Capital, CRV, Conviction, and Y Combinator, brings the San Francisco-based company's total funding to $125 million and pushes its valuation to nearly $1 billion.
The investment underscores the growing appetite for artificial intelligence solutions purpose-built for the heavily regulated life sciences industry, where regulatory submissions can run to 10,000 pages and documentation bottlenecks routinely delay the development and approval of new therapies.
"Life sciences strategy and documentation is going to be the AI battleground of 2026, the same way it was for legal in 2025," said founder and CEO Surbhi Sarna, a two-time entrepreneur and former Y Combinator partner who previously founded ovarian cancer detection startup NVision Medical (搜索) and sold it to Boston Scientific for $275 million in 2018.
Rapid Commercial Traction
Since signing its first customer in May 2025, Collate (搜索) has onboarded approximately 50 customers, a roster that includes large pharmaceutical companies, major medical device manufacturers, and publicly traded biotechnology firms. "We started working with some of the largest life sciences companies the same year we launched," Sarna noted. "Everyone is completely keyed into the problem."
The company's platform delivers GxP-compliant, AI-native software designed to automate and streamline highly regulated workflows without requiring extensive customization or lengthy implementation timelines. According to Collate (搜索), its pre-built workflows are created by a team with deep industry experience, reducing the burden on subject matter experts who would otherwise need to spend significant time training AI systems on life sciences-specific processes.
Redpoint's Satish Dharmaraj, who led the investment, believes life sciences documentation could represent an even larger opportunity than the legal AI market, where startup Harvey is now valued at $11 billion. "In the life sciences world, there are these big, big enterprise companies," Dharmaraj said. "You will get a big pharma company and grow like a weed inside."
Measurable Efficiency Gains and Safety Safeguards
Collate (搜索) reports that its platform delivers time savings of 50% to 90% on documentation tasks, with documents that previously required seven months now potentially completable in one month or less. This acceleration addresses a critical bottleneck in an industry where clinical trial and regulatory filing paperwork directly impacts the speed at which new therapies reach patients.
On the question of AI accuracy, Sarna acknowledged that errors and hallucinations remain industry-wide concerns but stated that Collate (搜索)'s accuracy exceeds 90% and often approaches 97%. As a safeguard, the company mandates human verification of all documents before they are exported from its system. "That might not sound sexy, but it's important," Sarna said. "I wanted to introduce AI and documentation to the industry in a way that I thought was patient safe."
A Founder's Journey
Sarna's path to building Collate (搜索) was shaped by personal experience. She started her first company, NVision Medical (搜索), after suffering from ovarian cysts so painful they caused her to faint, compounded by doctors who could not determine whether the cysts were cancerous. After struggling to raise early funding for that venture, she ultimately sold it to Boston Scientific in 2018.
With Collate (搜索), the fundraising story was markedly different. Having a successful exit and a stint as a Y Combinator partner behind her, Sarna and co-founder Nate Smith — another former YC visiting partner who previously co-founded recruiting platform Lever — raised $30 million in seed funding from top investors including Redpoint, First Round, and Conviction Partners, achieving a valuation exceeding $100 million before the company even had a commercial product or customers.
The Road Ahead
Collate (搜索) plans to use the new funding to continue expanding its platform and capabilities as demand grows for AI tools capable of operating within complex regulatory frameworks across research, development, manufacturing, and other critical life sciences functions. The company's long-term objective is to become a comprehensive end-to-end AI platform for the life sciences sector.
Sarna now believes that within the next six to nine months, the majority of the world's life sciences companies will sign deals to adopt AI for documentation workflows, whether with Collate (搜索) or with competitors. "It's bananas," she said of the customer interest and potential growth trajectory. "If you are a founder worth your salt, you are never going to say no. You and your team are going to figure it out."
