Concordare Trials (搜索), a New York-based company developing an AI-powered platform to digitize clinical trial protocols, has closed a funding round led by Surface Ventures (搜索), with participation from Techstars (搜索), Innovation Works (搜索), Gaingels (搜索), and individual investors. The financing will support product development, team expansion, and the growth of the company's site partnership network.
The company addresses a structural challenge at the center of every clinical study: the protocol itself. Despite years of investment in software systems for clinical operations, the clinical research industry has never resolved the need to manually recreate protocol information across multiple downstream systems. Concordare estimates that configuring systems around lengthy, non-standardized trial protocols can cost approximately $25 million per study.
"Every day a trial runs late, a patient is waiting," said Zach Sawaged, CEO and founder of Concordare Trials (搜索). Sawaged founded Concordare after a decade working across clinical research sites, sponsors, and technology vendors, drawing on experience at NYU Langone, Amgen, Johnson & Johnson, Takeda, and Veeva. Having witnessed firsthand how much cost and delay stem from recreating protocol information in different systems, he developed the solution himself.
The Concordare Suite and the Clinical Trial Protocol Model
The company's core offering, the Concordare Suite, ingests any protocol PDF and converts it into a proprietary Clinical Trial Protocol Model (CTPM), a digital, system-agnostic source of truth for a trial. Artificial intelligence is used exclusively for protocol extraction, after which the CTPM is human-reviewed before generating system configurations and study documents. This human-in-the-loop step maintains protocol fidelity and study integrity.
Sites apply this workflow once across studies, and end users can build downstream outputs in seconds. According to the company, the process accelerates study activation by 6–8 weeks.
