Convergen Raises $10 Million to Advance Novel TrimTAC Platform Targeting Neurodegenerative Disease Protein Aggregates
核心洞察
Convergen (搜索) secured $10 million in seed funding from Qiming Venture Partners (搜索) to develop its proprietary TrimTAC (搜索) platform for targeted protein degradation therapies.
The TrimTAC (搜索) platform leverages TRIM21 (搜索) E3 ubiquitin ligase (搜索) to selectively eliminate pathogenic multimeric protein aggregates, addressing a critical gap in neurodegenerative disease treatment.
Traditional bifunctional degraders face limitations including overreliance on limited E3 ligases and inability to target pathogenic protein aggregates that cause neurodegeneration.
Convergen (搜索), a biotech company pioneering targeted protein degradation (TPD) therapies for diseases driven by pathological protein aggregates, announced the closing of a $10 million seed financing round led by Qiming Venture Partners (搜索). The funding will accelerate development of the company's proprietary TrimTAC (搜索) platform and advance its early pipeline of therapies for neurodegenerative disorders.
Novel Platform Addresses Critical TPD Limitations
The TrimTAC (搜索) platform represents next-generation bifunctional degraders that leverage the E3 ubiquitin ligase (搜索) TRIM21 (搜索) to selectively clear pathological multimeric proteins. According to the company, traditional bifunctional degraders face two major hurdles: overreliance on a limited set of E3 ligases and, crucially, inability to selectively eliminate pathogenic multimeric protein aggregates—the root cause of many neurodegenerative diseases.
"Convergen (搜索)'s TrimTAC (搜索) platform addresses a critical gap in TPD—selective degradation of multimeric aggregates—that has held back progress in neurodegenerative diseases," said Dr. Kan Chen, Partner and Co-lead of Healthcare at Qiming Venture Partners (搜索).
Scientific Foundation and Leadership
The company's scientific foundation is built on the work of Dr. Ting Han, Scientific Co-Founder of Convergen (搜索) and Associate Investigator of NIBS, Beijing. Dr. Han is recognized as a globally recognized protein degradation expert whose pivotal work includes elucidation of the mechanism of action of RBM39 (搜索) degraders (Science 2017) and the recent discovery of TRIM21 (搜索)-based molecular glue degraders (Cell 2024, ACS Chemical Biology 2025).
Strategic Development Plans
Dr. Jinquan Sun, co-Founder of Convergen (搜索), outlined the company's strategic direction following the funding: "The seed financing—led by Qiming Venture Partners (搜索)—validates TrimTAC (搜索)'s potential to redefine treatment for diseases caused by pathogenic multimeric proteins. Together with Qiming, we will expand our expertise in TPD and CNS drug development, accelerate our pipeline toward clinical proof-of-concept, and deliver on our mission to help patients with limited treatment options."
The funds will specifically support the development of therapies targeting diseases with massive unmet medical needs, combining cutting-edge academic research with industry-proven drug development expertise.
Investment Partnership
Qiming Venture Partners (搜索), founded in 2006, manages eleven US Dollar funds and seven RMB funds with $9.5 billion in capital raised. The firm has backed over 580 fast-growing and innovative companies, with over 210 portfolio companies achieving exits through IPOs or M&A, and over 80 achieving unicorn or super unicorn status.
