Doximity's Clinical AI Assistant Tops NOHARM Safety Benchmark as AI Adoption Surges Across Healthcare Workflows

(DOCS:NYSE) reported fiscal 2027 first-quarter revenue of US$156.6 million for the three months ended June 30, up 7% from US$145.9 million in the same period a year earlier, as the healthcare networking and telehealth platform's investments in clinical artificial intelligence began translating into sharply higher engagement and usage.
The company reported net income of US$24.3 million, compared with US$53.3 million a year earlier, reflecting aggressive spending on AI development. Net income margin was 15.5%, compared with 36.5%. Non-GAAP net income was US$55.0 million, compared with US$71.9 million, with a non-GAAP net income margin of 35.1%, compared with 49.2%. Adjusted EBITDA totaled US$74.8 million, a decrease of 6% year over year from US$79.8 million, with an adjusted EBITDA margin of 47.7%, compared with 54.7%.
Clinical AI Safety Leadership
The company's clinical AI assistant, Doximity Ask (搜索), was the top-performing U.S.-based model in the NOHARM benchmark, which Doximity (搜索) described as one of the most comprehensive independent evaluations of clinical AI safety to date. In an independent study of 24 clinical AI models, Doximity Ask achieved the lowest clinical error rates and the highest safety ratings, outperforming OpenEvidence and leading frontier AI models. Notably, Doximity Ask had significantly lower error rates than Anthropic (搜索)'s best model, Fable 5.

Accelerating Clinician Adoption
Engagement metrics underscored the rapid uptake of Doximity (搜索)'s AI tools. The company reported year-over-year workflow active prescriber growth of more than 30% and quarter-over-quarter AI Search query growth of more than 25%. During a conference call with analysts, Tangney added that "AI prompt volume was up more than 25% quarter-on-quarter, while our AI Scribe note-taking users grew a whopping 10x this July over prior."
Doximity (搜索)'s August investor presentation listed more than 800,000 unique active workflow providers for the fiscal quarter ended March 31 and said AI users represented approximately half of workflow quarterly active users. The company also reported reaching more than 85% of U.S. physicians.
AI Economics and Commercial Reach
Tangney highlighted the profit potential of the company's AI offerings, telling analysts that "in terms of the economics of the usage, it's early days on our AI Search product, but I can tell you we're earning more than 10 times per search in revenue than it costs us to run that today." He indicated returns would likely improve further, noting that "over time, we probably expect the overall AI cost, if anything, go down as models get more efficient."
"We are leaning in as we see a once-in-a-generation opportunity to build the new AI age of medicine," Tangney said.
Doximity (搜索)'s clinical AI suite includes Scribe, Ask, and Dialer, which the company described as free, HIPAA-compliant, and private to each clinician. The company's first-quarter revenue metrics included 127 customers with trailing 12-month subscription revenue above US$500,000, an increase of 7% year over year, and a net revenue retention rate of 107% for the total company and 112% among its top 20 customers.
