Aiforia (搜索), a Helsinki-based life-science technology company, has secured €20 million in venture debt financing from the European Investment Bank (搜索) (EIB) to accelerate development of its artificial intelligence platform for cancer (搜索) diagnostics and expand its global commercial footprint. The financing, backed by the European Commission's InvestEU programme, marks a significant endorsement of AI-driven digital pathology from one of Europe's key financial institutions.
The funding package is structured in three tranches, beginning with an initial €5 million. Access to the remaining capital is contingent upon Aiforia (搜索) meeting agreed revenue and operational milestones outlined in the financing agreement. The company and the EIB have also agreed to a synthetic warrant arrangement that provides financial flexibility while avoiding immediate share dilution for existing shareholders.

"The EIB venture debt financing strengthens Aiforia's financial position and supports the implementation of our strategy. With this financing, we can accelerate product development, expand our commercial operations internationally, and advance our goal of improving patient care through AI-powered image analysis solutions."
AI-Powered Digital Pathology Platform
Founded in 2013 as a spin-off from the University of Helsinki, Aiforia (搜索) provides deep-learning AI software that assists pathologists and scientists in preclinical and clinical laboratories with image analysis, supporting discoveries, decisions, and diagnoses. The platform studies ultra-high-resolution images of biopsy samples, helping medical professionals identify cancer (搜索) cells with greater precision. The technology is designed to improve the speed and quality of tissue analysis while supporting clinical decision-making in cancer diagnosis.
Aiforia (搜索) reports that more than one million images have been analyzed and thousands of AI models have been developed on its platform for research purposes. Several diagnostic products have also been deployed. Selected Aiforia Clinical AI models and the Aiforia Clinical Suite Viewer hold CE-IVD marking for diagnostic use in the European Union and European Economic Area countries.
International Expansion and Strategic Growth
The company plans to use the investment to speed up development of new and existing AI-powered image analysis products while strengthening its international commercial operations. Aiforia (搜索) is headquartered in Helsinki and maintains subsidiaries in the United States and France, with local representatives across Europe and North America. Its team includes AI and software developers, pathologists, medical scientists, and commercial staff.
