Enzene Launches Commercial Supply of Pertuzumab Biosimilar Using Continuous Manufacturing Technology
核心洞察
Enzene has initiated commercial supply of pertuzumab, a monoclonal antibody therapy for HER2-positive breast cancer (搜索), following approval from India's Drug Controller General.
The biosimilar represents the fourth monoclonal antibody produced using Enzene's proprietary fully-connected continuous manufacturing technology at their Pune facility.
Multiple pharmaceutical companies will market the product in India, aimed at expanding patient access to affordable biologics for breast cancer (搜索) treatment.
Enzene, a global continuously innovative development and manufacturing organization, has announced the commercial launch of pertuzumab, a monoclonal antibody therapy for HER2-positive breast cancer (搜索) treatment. The biosimilar product received approval from the Drug Controller General of India (搜索) (DCGI) and will be marketed by multiple pharmaceutical companies across India.
Manufacturing Innovation Drives Commercial Success
The pertuzumab biosimilar was developed and scaled to commercial readiness at Enzene's advanced biologics facility in Pune using the company's proprietary fully-connected continuous manufacturing (FCCM) technology. This marks the fourth monoclonal antibody to reach commercial supply using this innovative manufacturing platform.
"The commercial supply of pertuzumab marks the latest milestone in our mission to help our partners expand patients' access to high-quality, affordable biologics," commented an Enzene official. "Innovation is a core value for us, and in developing and commercially validating the industry's first fully-connected continuous manufacturing technology, we have once again demonstrated its potential to radically improve the affordability of, and access to, important biotherapeutics."
Mechanism of Action and Clinical Applications
Pertuzumab functions by inhibiting the dimerization of human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (搜索) (HER2 (搜索)) with other HER receptors, preventing cellular signaling pathways that promote cancer cell growth and proliferation. The therapy is administered in combination with trastuzumab and docetaxel for treating HER2-positive breast cancer (搜索) patients.
The treatment combination is utilized across multiple clinical scenarios, including as a neoadjuvant therapy in early HER2-positive breast cancer (搜索) and as an adjuvant treatment for patients with high risk of recurrence.
Advanced Manufacturing Platform
Enzene's Pune facility features the company's fully-connected EnzeneX 2.0 platform, which significantly reduces equipment footprints compared to conventional fed-batch manufacturing systems. The facility provides clinical phase cGMP supply capabilities starting from 30-liter scale, with variable bioreactor capacity designed to accommodate scale-on, scale-up, and scale-out expansion requirements.
The FCCM technology delivers high-yield biomanufacturing in a cost-efficient and sustainable manner, positioning it as a transformative approach to biologics production. The Pune site was the first in Enzene's network to implement this advanced manufacturing platform and now provides fully integrated services targeting challenging diseases and innovative treatments.
