The FDA–AACR Oncology Educational Fellowship for the 2026–2027 cycle is now accepting applications, offering early-career cancer researchers and clinicians a unique opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge of oncology drug development and regulatory science. The one-year program, jointly administered by the American Association for Cancer Research (搜索) (AACR) and the FDA Oncology Center of Excellence (搜索), is designed for professionals who have completed a terminal advanced degree within the past 10 years.
Applications opened on June 15, 2026, and the submission window closes on August 3, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. U.S. Eastern Time. Selected fellows will be notified in September 2026, with the fellowship commencing in October 2026.
Program Structure and Educational Curriculum
Fellows engage in monthly virtual educational sessions led by experts from both AACR and the FDA Oncology Center of Excellence (搜索). The curriculum spans a broad range of regulatory and scientific topics central to modern cancer drug development, including investigational new drug (IND) applications, marketing applications, expedited regulatory pathways, clinical pharmacology, biostatistics, clinical trial design, oncology endpoints, precision oncology, and emerging research methodologies.
The program also features two required in-person components. Fellows attend selected activities at the AACR Annual Meeting 2027, scheduled for April 2–7, 2027, in Orlando, Florida. The capstone event, Project ODAC Odyssey, takes place on May 19, 2027, at the FDA White Oak Campus, where participants develop and lead a simulated FDA Oncologic Drugs Advisory Committee meeting.
Eligibility and Application Requirements
Eligible applicants must hold an MD, DO, PhD, MD/PhD, PharmD, MBBS, or an equivalent qualification in medicine or research, awarded within the past 10 years. Undergraduate and graduate students are generally not eligible. Applicants must be current AACR members or have submitted a membership application prior to applying. Strong written English skills are expected, though U.S. citizenship is not required.
The online application requires a conventional curriculum vitae—NIH biosketches are not accepted—a short professional biography of up to 250 words, and a statement of interest of up to 300 words. Two recommendation letters, each limited to two pages, must be submitted by individuals who can assess the applicant's scientific or clinical experience. Applicants are responsible for ensuring both letters are sent together to regsci@aacr.org with the required subject line containing the applicant's name and fellowship title.
Funding and Cohort Details
The fellowship does not provide a salary or stipend. However, AACR provides travel and lodging assistance for the required in-person activities, and registration for the AACR Annual Meeting 2027 is fully covered. Approximately 20 fellows have been selected for each annual cohort in previous cycles.
