Fi Recalls Two Dog Supplement Lots Over Salmonella Contamination Risk
核心洞察
Fi (搜索), a New York-based pet supplement company, recalled two dog supplement lots after an ingredient supplied to its manufacturer was found to potentially be contaminated with Salmonella (搜索).
The affected products are Fi Calming Supplement for Dogs (搜索) (lot 26118) and Fi 8-in-1 Formula Supplement for Dogs (搜索) (lot 26159), both in the 180 g size.
Salmonella (搜索) poses a risk not only to dogs but also to people who handle the product, contaminated surfaces, or animal waste, with young children and immunocompromised individuals most vulnerable.
Fi (搜索), a New York-based pet supplement company, is recalling two lots of dog supplements after learning that an ingredient supplied to its manufacturer could be contaminated with Salmonella (搜索). The recall was announced by the company on September 3, 2026, and published by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (搜索) (FDA) on September 8, 2026. The manufacturer has suspended production while it investigates, and Fi said it is notifying all affected customers "out of an abundance of caution." The company announcement does not report any illnesses in animals or people.
Products Affected
The recall covers two specific products, both in the 180 gram size:
- Fi Calming Supplement for Dogs, 180 g — Lot No. 26118, UPC 8 50064 80011 1
- Fi 8-in-1 Formula Supplement for Dogs, 180 g — Lot No. 26159, UPC 8 50055 11168 4
Both products were distributed directly to consumers and through the online retailers Amazon (搜索) and Chewy.com (搜索). That distribution pattern means there is no store shelf to clear and no in-store signage that a shopper might notice; the product arrived by mail and may be sitting in households. The company name listed in the FDA summary is Vet Plus, Inc. (搜索), with the brand shown as FI (搜索). Owners looking for the affected products should match the lot number printed on the container rather than relying on the product name alone, since only specific lots are covered.
Health Risks for Pets and Humans
Salmonella (搜索) in a pet product reaches people along two paths: direct contact with the product or with surfaces it has touched, and contact with animal waste after a dog has eaten the contaminated product. An infected dog sheds bacteria whether or not it looks unwell. The risk is greater, the company said, if people have not thoroughly washed their hands after contact with the products, exposed surfaces, or animal waste.
In people, the company notice lists nausea, vomiting, diarrhea that may be bloody, abdominal cramping, and fever. In rare cases, Salmonella (搜索) can lead to more serious problems, including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms. Most otherwise healthy people who contract Salmonella recover within about a week without specific treatment, but infants, adults over 65, and anyone with a weakened immune system — including those on chemotherapy or immune-suppressing medication — face a higher risk of severe outcomes. Young children are the group least likely to follow hand-washing routines and among the most vulnerable to serious Salmonella illness.
Dogs with Salmonella (搜索) infection may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some show only reduced appetite, fever, and abdominal pain, and a dog that appears healthy can still carry the bacteria and pass it to other animals or to people. Owners whose dog has eaten a recalled lot and shows any of these signs should call a veterinarian.
What Consumers Should Do
Fi (搜索) advises consumers who have the affected lots to stop using the product, make sure the container is tightly sealed, and dispose of it in the trash — not recycling. Anyone who develops symptoms after contact with the recalled product should contact a health care provider and mention the exposure, because that detail helps direct testing. Signs of dehydration, blood in the stool, a high fever, or symptoms in an infant warrant prompt medical attention.
Customers with questions can reach Fi (搜索) by phone at 1-888-434-3647, seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern time, or by email at support@tryfi.com.
An Ingredient Supplier at the Center
The recall was triggered upstream. Fi (搜索) attributes the problem to an ingredient supplied to its manufacturer, not to a failure at the point of packaging, which is why the manufacturer halted production while investigating. Whether this ingredient reached other manufacturers is not stated in the notice and remains unresolved. Additional recalls involving the same supplier would be the development to watch, and any would appear on the agency's recalls and safety alerts page.
