Miguel Yanez, a member of the Flow Pharma (搜索) Board of Directors, noted that "siltuximab for intravenous administration has been approved for a rare disease application and has been sold for that indication by another company for over 10 years." He added that with composition of matter patents for siltuximab now expiring, the company hopes to achieve FDA approval for this new indication.

The patent allowance announcement comes during an ongoing Ebola outbreak involving a strain with no known antiviral therapy, underscoring the urgent need for broad-spectrum treatments.
